Autism Testing
Riverina Counselling provides assessment services for those who may be suspected of having autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism is a condition with barriers around social and emotional connections with others, as well as marked interests into highly specific topics, themes and interests. Autism can be diagnosed in a number of different ways, and there is also varying costs involved with accessing assessment services. We try to make testing accessible and affordable. We do this by splitting our autism assessment process into 3 parts, and if we feel at any point we should pursue, you only pay for the assessment you need upfront. This means you are not paying for an entire battery of tests that you may not need to sit. We will discuss this together first, however, to ensure both perspectives are factored before any final decisions are reached. You will still need additional evidence from an Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist, as well as needing to access a psychiatrist or Paediatrician for a final diagnosis.
The assessment process for autism spectrum disorder can be long, as well as the need for extensive report writing. At the end of all the assessments you will be provided with a final summary report to complement your other allied health reports. These can then be presented to a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for further investigation, with the aim to arrive at a diagnosis.
Autism Diagnostic Interview
We begin assessing the presence of Autism in early life, as well as understand, as someone with autism develops what we noticed about this. This lasts 2 hours.
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2
We do a face-to-face (this cannot be done via telehealth) observational assessment that last approximately one hour.
Adaptive Behaviour Testing
We then do an assessment with the parent, caregiver or spouse on daily functioning across a few key areas. This last 2-3 hours.
